Towell Trust
A Brief History
In the early 1950's the late David Towell, a London
tailor, who was born in Northern Ireland, gifted a sum of
money to establish a Charitable Trust with the purpose of
opening a residential home.
Towell House opened its door to its first residents in
1957 and was an immediate success as it was probably the
first home of its kind in the East Belfast area. Since then
we have continuously endeavoured to meet the wishes of our
benefactor and provide high quality accommodation for older
people. 1998 saw the opening of a major extension
representing a substantial financial investment in the Home.
This development enables the Home to offer the option of en-suite
accommodation.
Towell Building Trust Limited is a registered
Charitable Trust -
managed by a Board of Directors who provide their
services on a voluntary basis. No dividends are paid,
no Directors fees are paid and there are no shareholders.
Any surplus from the running of the Home is put back
into improvements to the premises and enhancement of the
residential care. As a charity the Trust depends on the
financial assistance of many friends and donations.
